A former antivirus provider has accused two major antivirus vendors of using malware to infect their users and steal personal data.
Antivirus firm Kaspersky Lab says the two companies, AVG and AVGX, are guilty of using software to spy on users.
The firm says that a third company, Deepfake, was responsible for exploiting that software to steal data from its users.
The companies say they are not responsible for any of the data stolen by Deepfake.
Kaspersky says the firms are still working on a statement of their own.
In the meantime, Kasperski Lab has made an appeal for people who may be affected by the infections to call their companies.
“Call your vendors and report any suspicious activity you’ve observed, so that we can investigate,” Kasperska Lab wrote in a blog post.
The company says that antivirus software can be a useful tool for businesses that are not ready to upgrade to new software or are trying to stay ahead of malware that might be in their networks.
